Location of the Maxillary sinus?
Within the body of each maxilla, this pyramidally shaped sinus lies beneath the orbit.
Innervation of the ethmoid sinuses?
They are supplied by the anterior & posterior branches of the Nasociliary Nerve (V1).
Innervation of the frontal sinuses?
It is innervated by the supraorbital nerves (V1).
Where is the Sphenoethmoidal recess and what does it drain?
Sphenoethmoidal recess: region above superior concha - sphenoidal sinus.
Where is the Superior meatus and what does it drain?
Superior meatus: beneath superior concha - posterior ethmoidal air cells.
Where is the middle meatus and what are its components?
Middle meatus: beneath middle concha and contains a fissure called the semilunar hiatus.
The ethmoidal bulla is a bulge which helps to form the roof of the hiatus.
The unciform (uncinate) process helps to form the sharp floor of the hiatus.
What structures drain into the semilunar hiatus?
Frontal sinus - through the frontonasal duct (to the infundibulum).
Anterior ethmoidal air cells.
Maxillary sinus - this sinus connects to the middle meatus very close to the sinus’ roof.
What structures drain into the ethmoidal bulla?

What is the blood supply of the lateral wall of the nasal cavity?
Anterior and posterior ethmoidal arties (branches of the ophthalmic artery)
Lateral nasal branches (of the facial artery)
Sphenopalatine artery (Branch of maxillary artery)
What is the blood supply of the lateral wall of the nasal septum?
Anterior and Posterior ethmoidal arteries
Superior labial artery (Branch of facial artery)

What is Kiesselbach’s area?
Kiesselbach’s area is located in the anterior part of the nasal septum, in a location where many of the arteries supplying the septum anastomose.
What is epitaxis?
A nose bleed, which is relatively common because of the rich blood supply to nasal mucosa.

What are the 3 regions of the nose?
Vestibule - lies within the flared portion of the nose and often contains hair follicles
Respiratory region - largest part of the nasal cavity which contains the conchae.
Olfactory region - superior-most top of the nasal cavity that contains the olfactory epithelium necessary for the sense of smell.
