Define Atonement?

A

the word “to atone” refers to bringing together (to make at one)
to reconcile those who have been separated from each other.
>the word “atonement” >the Old Testament word
>”to cover” or “to wipe away”
>used to speak of the day of atonement
>used to speak of individual sacrifices made by people to atone for their sins (Lev. 1:1-4)
> The atonement is then the act of Christ’s sacrifice (his death) for the sins of people which was of sufficient value to make amends for the damage done to the honor of God’s law by human’s transgressions.

what was the problem of sin from God’s vantage point?

Describe it.

A

> God’s law said: “justice must be done. sin must be punished. there must be a penalty. any law not upheld is no law at all”
God’s holy nature said; “I hate sin, I cannot be in the presence of sin”.
God’s love said. “I want to forgive sinners and be restored to fellowship with them”
there was a penalty to be paid and a moral quality to be dealt with. the penalty must be paid but also humanity must be made right in the sight of God.

Rom. 10:1-15 - > we must believe.> we must preach (because if we don’t preach how will they hear, and if they don’t hear how are they going to believe).
1 Tim. 4:1-5 >tell us to do the work of an evangelist, preach the word in season and out of season;correct, rebuke and encourage.
