The Respiratory System Flashcards
What are the main organs in the breathing system?
Lungs.
What organ assists the lungs in breathing?
Diaphragm.
In what structure does gas exchange occur?
Alveoli.
Why are there so many alveoli?
So there is more surface area for oxygen absorption.
What can help keep this system healthy?
Not smoking, exercise, clean environment and fresh air.
What is the function of the mouth or nose?
Passage for air to enter.
What is the function of the diaphragm?
Opens and closes lungs.
What is the function of the lungs?
Holds structures that exchange gases.
What is the function of the trachea?
Protects airways and warms air.
What are the tiny air sacs at the end of the bronchioles called?
Alveoli.
How are the alveoli related to bronchioles?
Bronchioles attach to the alveoli.
How does diffusion connect to the respiratory system?
Gases automatically even out to where there is less of it. Therefore co2 goes to the lungs, where there isn’t any, and o2 goes to the bloodstream where there isn’t any.
