Cells And Systems Review Flashcards
What are the six characteristics of living things?
Grow Reproduce Respond to stimuli Energy Waste Cells
What is a cell?
The most basic unit of life.
What is the cell theory?
Cells are what separate the living from the non-living and keep the living alive.
What are the magnification levels for field of view?
4000
1600
400
What is the difference between uni cellular and multi cellular organisms?
Unicellular has only one cell while multicellular have many specialized cells.
What do plant cells have that animal cells don’t?
Cell walls, chloroplasts and bigger vacuoles.
What is the function of cytoplasm?
Holds organelles
What is selectively permeable?
When only certain things can get through (a membrane)
Why is the cell membrane selectively permeable?
So only wanted nutrients and water will come in and nothing unwanted like germs.
What is the major difference between diffusion and osmosis?
Osmosis is specific to water.
What is the difference between xylem and phloem?
Phloem lets sugar down to roots from leaves and xylem carries water up to leaves from roots.
What is the order that cells are organized in multicellular organisms?
Cells, tissue, organ, system, organism.
What is the pathway of food through the digestive system?
Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus
What is the difference between chemical and mechanical digestion?
Mechanical is actual mashing like chewing and chemical is using a mixture of enzymes to break down like saliva.
What is the function of the digestive system?
To absorb nutrients.
