What is the social learning theory
Behaviour learnt from environment
Behaviour learnt from observing others and the reinforcement or punishment they receive
What is identification
When individual is influenced by another
What is imitation
When individual observes behaviour from role model and copies
What is modding
When someone is influential on another
What is vicarious reinforcement
Observer sees reinforcement model receives. They see someone else get reward so they copy
What are mediating processes?
Processes prior to imitation
What’s attention
To imitate the behaviour has to grab our attention
What’s retention
Behaviour may be noticed but not always remembered
Important memory is formed
Reproduction ?
Limited by physical ability
Even if we want to reproduce behaviour we can’t
What’s motivation
If perceived reward outweigh costs - behaviour is more likely to be imitated

Takes thought processes into account
Successfully explain initiation of certain behaviours
Not a full explanation for all behaviour
