Q

Describe major differences between connective tissue of skin and that of small intestine lamina propria.

A
  • The skin has lower cell density relative to the ECM than in the small intestine.
  • small intestine

8
Q

lymphocytes and white blood cells in the small intestine.

A
  • White blood cells are the “immigrants” of the small intestine.
  • Small intestine has more lymphocytes for immune defense.

Q

Describe cartilage under microscope.

A
  • Cartilage has long chains of cells due to “interstitial growth”. This is located on the epiphyseal growth plate.
  • The cells embedded in the cartilage will always be chondrocytes. Cells in this region but close to the bone are a bit more differentiated and do not really divide.

Q

What is occurring in the bone matrix?

A
  • Chondrocyte hypertrophy and calcification of the matrix

- There is a battle between chondrocytes and osteoclast to degrade and build the bone.

Q

Describe the osteocyte in bone.

A

-Osteocyte is embedded in the bone matrix, it’s precursor is the osteoblast.

13
Q

What is bone marrow?

A

-Red bone marrow is hematopoietic stem cells. So called because it stains red.

14
Q

What cranks out the cell matrix? what is it’s progenitor?

A

-Osteoblast (NOT osteocytes).

  • The precursor is the osteoprogenitor
  • typically not in the bone matrix.

15
Q

Describe bone under microscope.

A

-Bone stains dark and is not nucleated. It does have cells embedded in it that are nucleated themselves.

16
Q

What is the appearance of adipose cells?

A
  • White, bright blobby.

- The nuclei of adipose cells are pushed against the cell membrane by the accumulation of fat.

17
Q

Describe appearance and location of Collagen

A

Located in the connective tissue, it is slightly stained, in a region of tissue that appears disorganized.

18
Q

Describe the appearance of skeletal muscle.

A
19
Q

Describe the function and location basal lamina.

A
  • Functions:
    1. Basal lamina separates epithelial cells to underlying connective tissue.
    2. Selective permeability of cellular movement from one layer to the next.
    3. it has molecules in it that contribute to the basal polarity.

-Location: It is very tightly bound to the basal side of epithelial cells.

20
Q

Describe simple squamous cells.

A

-simple squamous epithelium is a single layer of flat cells in contact with the basal lamina
