Tell me what does all the types of solar eclipses mean

A

The total solar eclipse is when you are in the umbra of the moons shadow. The partial eclipse is when you are in the penumbra of the moons shadow. The annular solar eclipse is when the moon goes in between the earth and sun, but you can still see a ring of sunlight around the moon.

Q

What happens during a solar eclipse?

A

During a solar eclipse, the sky turns black like it’s night. This happens because the Moon is a opaque object, so the Moon’s shadow will be on the Earth causing the sky to become dark (although it’s not supposed to be night)

Q

What happens during a lunar eclipse?

A

During a lunar eclipse, the moon turns red or darker because the Sun’s light rays are not reaching it due to the earth blocking the moon. The earth is an opaque object as well, so thats why the moon turns red.

Q

What is a shadow?

A

A shadow is when an opaque object blocks a light ray from reaching the ground. So, when an opaque object passes through a source of light, an area of darkness (shaped by the object) will be on the ground.
