Q

During flight planning for IFR or NVFR, what performance at the cruising alt is required for the B412?

A

1% climb gradient, which at 70kts Vy = 82ft/min.

For practicality - use 100ft/min.

16
Q

The fuel interconnect switch should be selected open when..

A

Fuel quantity reduces to 600lbs.

17
Q

What height and speed is the TDP standardised too?

A

45kts at 35 ft

18
Q

What is Vtocs/Vtoss for the B412?

A

45kts

19
Q

What timing compensation method for wind can be applied during a holding pattern?

A

Headwind - increase outbound timing by 2 secs for every knot of head wind

Tailwind - take 2 sec/per kt off outbound leg

20
Q

Outer marker check height procedure

A

Compare altimeter with published check height

If altimeter reads high - add difference to DA and adjust RADALT bug

If altimeter reads low - good to go. No adjustment req’d

Significant error - discontinue PA, switch to NPA

23
Q

NVG options if vis drops below 5000m

A

Revert to NVFR or IFR

Change direction

Land

24
Q

NVG height vs speed requirements

A

A

3hrs inc 3 take-offs, ccts and landings in last 6 months or NVG NPC in last 6 months

NVG NPC annually

HLS basic - 3x 6mths

NVG winch - 1x 6mths

26
Q

What equipment is required for NVIS flight?

A

a RADALT which

  • instant height
  • easy to read rate of change
  • audio and visual warnings of set height

a pilot steerable search light (az + pitch)

no IR filter below 500’ unless

  • can revert immediately or
  • 2 NVIS pilot operation

aircraft has min equipment for NVFR or IFR

each crew can access NVIS compatible torch

each crew has lip light

27
Q

Define HFIRES brief

A

H - Height low (check ht = Rgr, xxft radalt/ climb x 3/ ht good, hold)

F - Fouling (free/ cut/ quick splice)

I - Intercom (shout/ hand signals/ pax ICS)

R - Runaway (Stby winch pwr OFF)

E - Emergency ACO (cut cut cut) PLT ( minor - cont/ abort, major - brace or fly away)

S - Stoppage (Stby pilot controls)

28
Q

Overwater Ops requirements

A

Max use of FD. Alt hold on until base/final and visual with target area

No extended transits blw 1000’ AGL.

No descent blw 1000’ AGL until established in CcT area or over target.

No descent blw 500’ AGL until surface visible and discernible, and no descending turns

Altitude changes announced, radalt set, altitude callls every 100’ and every 20’ in last 100.

29
Q

Max OAT temps

A

51.7 deg at sea level, less 2 deg/ 1000ft

30
Q

Define fixed reserve

A

Fuel in tanks after final landing:

  • 20mins day VFR (Range Fuel flow)
    ~ B412 = 250lb
  • 30mins Day/Ngt (holding fuel flow)
    ~ B412 = 300lb

Calculated at 1500’AGL at landing weight

“MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY FUEL” required if landing below FR

31
Q

Define land as soon as practicable

A

Aircraft is airworthy and can continue to nearest airfield/ HLS where availability of tech assist is considered.

32
Q

Define land as soon as possible

A

There is a clear threat to safety/ airworthiness if flight continues too long. Terminate flight at nearest safe approach and landing area.

Tech assist not considered.

33
Q

Define land immediately.

A

Significant risk if flight is continued, such as severe vibration or structural failure. Ditching, controlled descent into trees deemed a lesser risk.

34
Q

When are survival suits to be worn?

A

Water blw 15deg, or

Air blw 10deg (at sea level), or

Combined Sea and Air temp 31deg or blw

Or when desired due wind chill factor

Take watch off and burp suit
