Anterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards

1
Q

Boundaries of the abdominal wall

A

Superior, are the right and left costal margins, the inferior border is a line on either side connecting the ASIS to the pubic symphysis, lateral are vertebral lines from the ASIS and up on each side. The posterior boundary is the lumbar paravertebral musculature

Q

Inguinal canal

A

a passage from the abdominal cavity through the anterior abdominal wall

17
Q

Inguinal ligament. Formed by folds of what?

A

fibers band extending from the anterior superior iliac spine to the pubic tubercle. Formed by folds of the external oblique aponeurosis

18
Q

What are the contents of the inguinal canal

A

spermatic cord in males
round ligament of the uterus in females
inguinal nerve
blood and lymph vessels

19
Q

Inguinal hernias (direct, indirect)

A

direct is acquired, breaks through the spermatic cord. Indirect is within the spermatic cord and is congenital
