What is the biological perspective on personality?
They believe that a stabel personality depends on the persons well functioning brain. AKA det biologys effect on personality like genes hormons and physical health.
That people are born with certain inherit abilities and predispositions.
Why is biology important for the understanding of personality.
Its important because genes can influence our personality, its hard to say how in a perfectly healthy person but we know that for exempel people born with a defect on chromosome 15 are overly friendly. we also know that hormons effect personality in different ways.
What could bee or has been shown to be a danger or a risk of a biological perspective? Give exemples
The perspektiv does not take in to account that childhood experiences, emotions, social pressures and the environment can effect our personality.
EX: people with anorexia are usually very thin and small and you would assume that they are shy and sensitiv but that does not have to be the case at all times.
What is Behaviourl genomics?
Its the study about how genes affect our behaviour.
What is a genome?
Is a set of genes on the 23 paris of chromosomes.
The term temperament is used to refer to?
Stable individual differences in emotional reactivity
Explain eysneck’s model of the nervous system temperament ?
The model goes like this.
Extroverts have a lower level of brain arousal then introverts so they feel the need to seek more stimulus to get the same level of stimulis that introverts do.
That introverts have a higher level of central nervous system arousal so the usually shy away from stimulation because it gets too much.
What are the methodological challenges when trying to prove eysneck’s model of the nervis system temperament?
The challenges with proving this is that you cant really measure nervous arousal. And that your body is always trying to maintain a balans/ equilibrium so the baseline varys.
Eysneck’s model has also been extended to?
a neuroticism-emotionality dimension where its states that stable people have well modulated nervous systems and neurotic people have a reactive nervous system that promotes emotional instability
Describe a nervous system-based model (sensation seeking) of individual differences in susceptibility to drug addiction.
- a sensation seeker may have a biological weakness in dopaine regulations. they seek out party and drugs to seek stimulation.
- drugs affect the brain and the person feels artificiell pleasure the neurotransmitters are now effected.
- dopamin levels are high because the reuptake of dopamin is hindered and the pleasure gets more intense.
- if the person keep taking drugs frequently the brain will undersatnd that its to much neurotransmitters in this persons brain and because the body is always trying to have a equilibrium a balans it will think “ hmm okey so im getting a a lot of neurotransmitters this months and its not supposed to be like this, i have to do something about it, i will decrease the natural neurotransmitters or maybe dcres the dopamin receptors so when the person takes the drugs we will not have as much activity.
- what happens now is that because the brain has ajusted to the new situation, the person feels down and not satisfied without the drugs. Becuse now the person feels like he used to feel only when he takes the drugs. so he has 3 levels 1. down with out the drugs, 2. take sam amoutn of drugs and feel like he normaly would. 3. take even more drugs to feel the affect of the drug that he used to feel when he triad it the first couple of times.
what are the toxins, illness and drugs effect on personality?
drugs kan have short and long term effect on personality, cocaine can make you paranoid. and drugs in genrelly makes people mood change
toxins and illnesses that affect the brain function often alters personality. like parkinsons can make a person take fewer risk and be more careful.
Toxins that effect the brain can make you more aggressive, impulsive and your temper.
why are twins studys a good source of data to understands genes and personality?
its easier to understand whats nature and what is nurture when it comes to personality if you do the study on twins
What is socio-biology and how does it apply to human behaviour?
social biology is a feeld in biology that try to explain our social behaviour in term to evolution. EX: mating dances that evolves over time to get the most desirable mate.
Its hard to apply it to humans because you oversimplify it easily but when you try to apply it to humans you focus on the human aggression, courtship and human relations.
