What is Electromagnetic Induction?
The moving of a magnet in and out of a coil to cause charges to move.
What is Faraday’s Law?
A law that states that an electrical current can be produced by changing a magnetic field.
How does Electromagnetic Induction produce energy?
It seems like the energy is being made out of nowhere because all you have to do is move a loop, but that movement of the loop is actually work that is creating energy.
What is a Generator?
A machine that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
What is Alternating Current?
An electric current that changes direction at regular intervals.
When does a Magnetic Loop not produce Electricity?
When it is perpendicular to the field (surface it’s on).
How do Homes get Electricity?
From generators.
What are some different kinds of Power Plants?
There are solar, geothermal, coal-burning, hydraulic, nuclear, and many more kinds of Power Plants.
What is a Transformer?
A device that increases or decreases the voltage of an alternating current.
How do Transformers change Voltage?
By having different amounts of coils of wire on the secondary end.
What is a Step-Up Transformer?
A device that makes the secondary voltage higher than the primary.
What is a Step-Down Transformer?
A device where the secondary voltage is lower than the primary.
