What investigations will help you in BPH?

A

bedside: urine dip to outrule a UTI
bloods: PSA suspect ca in greater than 4 ng/ml
imaging: abdominal US - prostate volume,urinary rentention, bladder wall thickeness, and hydronephrosis
transrectal US if ca suspected (history or exam or PSA)
special: maximal urinary flow measurements N greater than 15 less than 15 obstruction less than 10 indicates the need for surgery.

lifestyle modification:
night time fluid restriction: limit caffeinated drinks and sugary drinks
urination sitting down and ensuring complete bladder emptying
