Where both management and leadership are conceptualised as functions of a position of authority.
“Being” managers and leaders
Where both management and leadership are conceptualised as functions of personal characteristics.
Leaders “doing” management
Where leadership is seen as a function of a position of authority and management is seen as a function of a set of personal characteristics.
Personal power
Power that resides with who we are and what we can do as individuals.
Positional power
Power which resides in the role or position we hold in the organisation.
