Chapter 6 Flashcards
Followers as recipients of leadership
The follower is treated as passive and at the receiving end of the leadership process. Leaders do, followers react.
Followers as moderators of leadership
The follower is treated as an important contextual variable affecting a leader’s effectiveness. They are still seen as rather simple.
Followers as substitutes for leadership
The followers’ skills and knowledge can provide guidance and support normally sought from a leader. They can neutralise the need for leadership.
Followers as constructors of leadership
What we see as leadership and what is effective is constructed by those who follow.
Followers as leaders
Leadership is done by and for everyone and becomes the essence of being and acting in the organisation.
Followers as co-producers of leadership
The leadership process is about engagement in a mutually beneficial relationship. Leader-follower relationship is ongoing, interactive and equally influencing.
