Q

What are the conditions of use of the WCO corridor?

A
  • Crossing traffic is not deemed to be in the corridor until it is within the lateral confines of the corridor and it is level at either FL230/240
  • An aircraft that is inside the ATS route structure but not yet within the confines of the corridor is deemed to be ‘taking 5’ unless prior co-ordination has been agreed
  • If an aircraft is vectored out of the corridor it is deemed to be ‘taking 5’ and the Military controller will cancel any previously submitted electronic CFP, unless prior co-ordination has been agreed
  • All crossing traffic will operate on a Military SSR code and this will not be changed until the aircraft is clear of the ATS route structure
  • The Military controller will - identify to the S28P + S25P any non-SSR aircraft prior to entry to the corridor and notify the planners when these aircraft are clear of the corridor
  • All normal radar facilities must be serviceable
  • Corridor activation will be suspended when either a Royal Flight will transit at the published corridor levels, or when GAT, in an emergency, needs to transit through the corridor
  • S27 and S32 controllers shall regard the corridor as being permanently active

Q

How does tactical activation of the WCO corridor take place and when this happens what are civil controllers applying standard separation against?

A

Civil controllers will apply standard separation against the crossing traffic.

  • For tactical activation, the military will submit an electronic CFP request to S25 + S28 and await a response
  • If the proposal is acceptable the civil planners shall inform the tactical and electronically accept the request
  • If, after a reasonable time, the Military have not received a response from a civil sector, then they will contact that sector to hasten the request. The Military are entitled to take the corridor airspace if 5 mins notice is given and, if a clearance is not immediately forthcoming, this call will commence the 5 min countdown period

Q

How does TFN activation of the WCO corridor take place and when this happens what are the civil controllers applying standard separation against?

A
  • Minimum of 5 mins notice required
  • The airspace is ceded to the military during TFN activation and (unless co-ordinated otherwise with the military) civil traffic must remain clear of the lateral and vertical limits of the corridor
  • Can be activated by either Military, S25P or S28P when the sector is sufficiently busy that individual CFP requests cannot be accomodated
  • If the Military are activating, they will contact S28P and S25P to request activation and no electronic CFPs will be submitted
  • If either civil sector wish to activate the corridor then they must have the permission of the other before contacting the Military
  • Following agreement to activate the corridor TFN, the corridor map selection on the main display can, if required, be changed from the normal de-activated setting (dashed red lines) to the activated colour (solid red lines)
  • Civil planners shall create an electronic blocking strip to populate the accepted and incomm bays
  • When no longer required, the corridor will be deactivated by the Military phoning the S28P and S25P
  • When the corridor is activated TFN, the Military will aim to vector as many aircraft as possible through it. However, activation of the corridor TFN does not preclude the submission of individual CFP requests for aircraft not routeing via the corridor. Furthermore, existing Enhanced Co-ordination agreements are not affected whenever the corridor is activated TFN

Q

How is on route status granted in the Daventry RCA?

A
  • When ‘off route east’ is granted
  • When TRA 003 is not active and the Swanwick (Mil) East Supervisor agrees to a request from GS LKS to release the airspace

16
Q

What is the hold axis and direction of turn at HON, and how is this affected by the level of the aircraft?

A

FL200 and above - 148 degrees RH

FL190 and below - 148 degrees LH

17
Q

What considerations are there when holding at HON is taking place if DTY southbound is split?

A

All holding at HON must be co-ordinated between S27 + S32, in addition to S29, S7 and S4 planners as appropriate.

18
Q

If holding is taking place at HON at FL250+, who must S27/32 co-ordinate with?

A

S23 and Swanwick (Mil) West Supervisor

19
Q

If holding is taking place at HON at FL310+, who must the S27/32 inform?

A

S24P

20
Q

If holding is taking place at HON at FL200 or FL210, who is the S27/32 planner to inform?

A

TC Midlands Co-ordinator

21
Q

When operating fully bandboxed and a CFP request is received, how many CFP requests are received and why?

A

3 if the aircraft is RVSM compliant (S27/32 and either S28 or S34)

4 if the aircraft is non-RVSM compliant and requesting to cross at either FL290/FL300
