What do Bulk-forming laxatives do?
Swell in water to increase bulk in the intestine that triggers muscle contractions to expel stool
What does Stool softener do?
Allow water and fat to penetrate the intestine and soften the formed stools
How does Stimulant laxatives work?
Work by stimulating intestinal muscle contraction; often used in stomach-emptying for a gastrointestinal test; require about six to eight hours to be fully effective
