Q

why are CFC bad for ozone

A

they are stable (due to C-H bonds) till they reach ozone layer but once there it breaks up and forms Cl radicals which interupt formation of O3

Q

process from CF2Cl2 to O2

A

CF2Cl2 -> CF2Cl* + Cl*

Cl* + O3 -> ClO* + O2*
ClO* + O -> Cl* + O2

overall = O3 + O -> 2O2

Q

NO mechanism to form 2O2

A

NO* + O3 -> NO2* + O2
