Why did the Soviets appoint Dubcek?
They hoped that he would stop the calls for reforms
Why was Brezhnev concerned about the reforms?
He was gaining support from independent communist countries like Yugoslavia and Warsaw Pact member Romania
What did Dubcek do when Moscow accepted the reforms?
He announced plans to open borders with western countries and remove censorship of the press. Other Warsaw Pact member started to show their displeasure
What happened in June 1968?
The Czech border was the chosen location for Warsaw Pact military exercises this was to intimidate Dubceks gov.
What was the Warsaw Letter?
Each country had a right to sovreignty but warned that if they challenges the communist system risked damaging the whole system

What happen when the Soviets invaded?
On the 20th August 1968 they entered and took control of Prague. It was an official request from the Communist Party to restore order. The reforms were reversed and a new hard line gov established in 1969
What happens to Dubcek?
He was arrested and then expelled from the Communist Party
