  • Warm days and cool nights
  • All New York wine regions benefit from a body of water. Lakes, rivers and the Atlantic Ocean help to moderate temperatures in the summer and tame the often severe winters.
  • Annual rainfall is 760 to 1270 mm
  • Hurricanes can be a problem.
  • Short growing season in Lake Erie and Finger Lakes at 170 to 200 days.
  • Longer growing season on Long Island, 220 days.
  • The humidity and rainfall is higher in Long Island.
