Place flag at half staff when a UMOS dies:

A

A. Lt, Sgt, Po- on dept building where assigned on day of funeral
B. Captain- on dept building where assigned from time of death to sunset day of funeral
C. Deputy inspector or inspector- on dept buildings within his/her command from time of death to sunset day of funeral; flag at police headquarters will fly at half mast on day of funeral
D. Member killed in line of duty- on dept building where member assigned from time of death to 10 days after the funeral; flags will fly at half-mast on all dept buildings from time of death until day after the funeral
E. Other members, police commissioner or a deputy commissioner- as directed by the police commissioner or chief of dept

Mourning bands as follows:

A

-Active member line of duty- members of his/her command from time of death until 2400 hours on the tenth day after his or her death
Other members- from time of death until 2400 hours on the day of the funeral
-Active member non line of duty- members of his or her command from 0001 hours until 2400 on day of funeral, other members while attending funeral
-Retired MOS- while attending funeral services
-Police Memorial Day- Mandatory for all MOS attending the headquarters ceremony in uniform, optional for all UMOS between 0001 and 2400

  • National peace officers Memorial Day- optional for all UMOS between 0001 to 2400 on May 15 annually
