Loiter Procedures Flashcards
Brief
Conduct as soon as engine is shut down
Crew, Engine no. 1 is shutdown for loiter. If we have a malfunction on an operating engine requiring immediate shutdown, we will shutdown the applicable engine and complete the emergency shutdown checklist through ALTERNATE HRD. After which we will restart engine number 1 beginning with PCO. If we have a deferred emergency and elect to restart number 1 first, flight engineer, I will call for you to PCO and restart number 1. Once you call normal restart, we will take corrective action on the malfunction.
Pre-shutdown considerations
NATO
Normal Gen 2 and 3
All buses energized
Top 3, bottom 3 gauges working
OAT (Should not be used when visible moisture is present and ambient temperature is below 10C because of possible buildup of ice - without moisture, loiter should not be conducted below 0C unless necessary, then time table should be followed)
Airspeed for restart under normal conditions
Same as NTS check
Minimum airspeed when fuel is critical
210 kts
Minimum airspeed for restart
170 kts
Maximum allowable airspeed for restart
345 - 6kts/1000ft
Reasons to E-handle Airstart
Feather button light on following PCO action
Blade angle/rotation with PCO button
NTS INOPR
TIT Exceeds 850C
No Oil Pressure by 35% with premature light-off
Engine RPM stagnates or decays
Reasons to Fx Button on Airstart
No Oil Px indicated
No light-off within 10 seconds - additional attempt possible
No Rotation with Fx Button (use starter)
Reason to use Starter button on Airstart
If prop does not rotate with blade angle (due to prop brake), push feather button in and pull starter button
If prop fails to feather during loiter shutdown
Perform Propeller Fails to Feather Procedure. If the propeller is successfully feathered using the first four steps of the Propeller Fails to Feather Procedure, complete the Loiter shutdown checklist, if not complete the entire Propeller Fails to Feather Procedure, followed by the Emergency Shutdown Procedure.
