A
  1. Participants were assigned the role of either prisoner or prison guard.
  2. Prison guards had a training day with Zimbardo (experimenter) and were given uniforms
  3. Prisoners were arrested by real police and were given unfiorms and numbers.
  4. All participants were placed in mock prison.

A

Guards became aggressive and more authoritative, and prisoners became more passive and traumatised.

A

The experiment was unpredictable, negative impacts on participants, violation of many ethical conditions.

  • Breach of no harm principle (were affected by experiment).
  • Withdrawal rights (were convinced to stay when they wanted to leave)
  • Informed consent (did not agree to be arrested in front of frends and family)
  • Debriefing (proper debreifing did not take place as participants were still largely affected).
