Why is Plague in news ?

An outbreak of Bubonic plague in Mongolia, China and Russia have emerged and is suspected to be caused by Marmot (A squirrel family rodent)

Is plague bacterial or viral ?

Answer 2

Bacteria – Yersinia Pestis. Found mostly in rodents. It can be transmitted to humans through infected animals and fleas

How many types of plagues are there ?

1) Bubonic plague – This infects a persons lymphatic system causing an inflammation of lymph nodes. If left untreated , it can reach next stages
2) Pneumonic plague – Occurs when bacteria infects the lungs. This is the only type of plague that can be transmitted from human to human
3) Septicemic plague – Occurs when the bacteria enters the blood stream and multiplies there. This is the most dangerous form
