Explain the 3 positions of the rotary selector (Off, Nav, ATT)

A
  1. Off - ADIRU 1(2)(3) is not energized
  2. NAV - IR 1(2)(3) operates in NAV mode, the normal position, energized, full inertial data is provided to the systems. ADR is also active.
  3. ATT -
    A. IR 1(2)(3) only provides altitude and heading entered by the flight crew
    B. The navigation data has to be reset every 10 mins
    C. Heading must be entered via MCDU.
    D. ADRs still operational and may be switched off by pushing the ADR button if needed

Can you push in the black IR button? How do you affect the IR?

A

No. It only displays Fault or Align. To affect the IR, move the rotary switch. This will also affect the ADR.

A

Push the black ADR button on the Overhead panel

  1. Wind - true wind direction and wind speed
  2. Present Position
  3. Heading - true heading, Shows TTN, Time To Nav, 10 mins
  4. Status - shows IRU status or abnormal situation with guidance ex. STS - ENTER PPOS is displayed on the main display display
  5. Track and Ground Speed. Uses true track and ground speed of the aircraft
  6. Test - spring loaded, tests the lights on the keyboard and produces a test pattern on the main display

A

Fast: 30 seconds
Full: 10 minutes

What does the On light from the ON Battery mean? What does it mean if it is lights out?

A

Off
Lights out, all the ADIRU’s are either off or on and not supplied by the batteries

On

  1. Batteries are supplying at least on ADIRU
  2. Also comes on for a few seconds during a full alignment but not during a fast alignement
