Q

The fault light in amber appears on the IDG pb when: 2

When does the fault light go away?

Can the IDG be disconnected anytime?

A
  1. IDG oil overheats, temperature is above 180degC
  2. IDG pressure is low (N2 below 14%)

Fault light disappears when the IDG is disconnected

No. Disconnect the IDG only when the engine is running or windmilling. Otherwise, when the engine is started, it will damage the IDG

Q

Which source supplies the AC ESS Bus/AC ESS FEED pb when lights out or ALTN?

What does the Fault in amber mean?

What supplies the AC Essential Feed in case of AC Bus 1 & 2 fault? 2

A

Lights out
AC ESS Bus is supplied by AC Bus 1

ALTN in white
After pressing the button, switches AC ESS Bus to AC Bus 2

Fault in amber
AC ESS Bus is not electrically supplied

In case of loss of AC Bus 1 & 2, AC ESS Bus is supplied by the Emer Gen or if not available, the Static Inverter

Q

What are the On, Off and Fault positions of the Gen 1/2 pb?

A

On lights out
The generator is energized and the line contactor closes if the electrical parameters are normal

Off in white

a. The generator is de-energized
b. The line contactor opens
c. The fault circuit is reset

Fault in amber

a. ECAM caution appears
b. The associated generator control unit (GCU) trips or
c. When in the On position, the line contactor opens

Q

APU Gen pb. What are the On, Off, Fault?

A

On lights out
The APU generator is energized and the line contactor closes if the electrical parameters are normal and the External Power line contactor is open

Off in white

a. The APU generator is de-energized
b. The line contactor opens
c. The fault circuit is reset

Fault in amber

  1. ECAM: ELEC APU GEN FAULT
  2. Fault:
    a. The associated generator control unit (GCU) trips or
    b. When in the On position, the line contactor opens
    c. The fault light is inhibited if:
    c. 1. the APU speed is too low or
    c. 2. EXT PWR or ENG GEN takes over

Q

Bus Tie pb - Auto (3) and OFF positions

A

Auto

  1. Automatically opens or closes to maintain the power supply between AC Bus 1 & 2
  2. One contactor is closed when one engine generator supplies it’s assoiated AC Bus and the APU generator or external power supply powers the other side
  3. Both contactors are closed when in single engine operation, operation of the APU generator or external power supply

Off - Both bus tie contactors are open

Q

Galley & Cab. pb - Auto, OFF & Fault

A

Auto Lights out
A. Main galley, secondary galley, in seat power, entertainment are supplied
B. The main galleys, in seat power, entertainment are shed on ground or in flight, when one engine generator is operating
C. On ground, with one engine generator operating, the main galleys, in seat power, entertainment are available when the APU Gen or Ext Pwr is suppling power

Off
The main galley, secondary galley, in seat power and entertainment system are not supplied by any power. The electrical supply of the heating floor panel is shed

Q

What happens to the Battery when the pb is either OFF (3) , FAULT, On (3)?

A

OFF (white)

  1. The Battery Charger Limiter (BCL) is not operating
  2. The battery line contactor is open
  3. The DC Bat Bus and hot busses remains supplied

Fault (amber)
With ECAM, charging currents are out of limits. The battery line contactor open

On (lights out)
1. The battery line contactor is controlled by the BCL

  1. The batteries connect to the DC Batt Bus when:
    A. APU Master Switch is on and N less is than 95%, there is a maximum 3 minutes limit when the Emergency Generator is running
    B. Battery voltage drops below 26.5v
    B.1. On ground, immediately
B.2. In flight, after a 30 min delay
B.3. Charge cycle ends when current goes below 4 amps
  2. Loss of AC Bus 1 & 2, Emer Gen not supplying, below 100kts but greater than 50kts:
    1. Bat 1 supplies Static Inverter and AC ESS bus
    1. Bat supplies the DC ESS bus
  3. Most of the time, the batteries are disconnected
  4. Ground logic to prevent complete discharge
17
Q

What is the Ground Logic to keep the batteries from discharging completely? 4

Can the battery line contactors be reset to connect after the ground logic?

A

Ground Logic:

  1. Aircraft is on the ground
  2. Batteries are set to Auto
  3. External or engine power supply are cut off
  4. The battery voltage is low

Yes. The battery line contactors can be reset by switching the batteries off then on
