what is safeguarding?
protecting a citizens health, wellbeing and human rights, enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect

what is empowerment?
people being supported and encouraged to make their own decisions and informed consent
what is prevention?
it is better to take action before harm occurs
what is proportionality?
to provide the right level of response to suit the needs of the person, the situation or the level of risk

local solutions through services working with their communities. communities play a part in preventing,detecting and reporting neglect and abuse.
what is accountability?
accountability and transparency in safeguarding practice
what does patient safety mean?
the avoidance of accidental or unintended injury or harm during a period of receiving health care
what does clinical effectiveness mean?
the application of healthcare
taking into consideration the individuals wishes
healthcare professional’s experience
evidence based research
why are ‘patient safety’ and ‘clinical effectiveness’ important?
raises the standard of care

what does radicalisation mean?
the action or process of someone to adopt or support terrorism, or radical extremist beliefs connected
what are 4 signs of radicalisation?
detachment from family/friends

failure or avoidance in discussing their views
increased in privacy or secretive behaviour
what is the purpose of the prevention strategy against radicalisation?
to work with communities to support vulnerable people at risk of becoming radicalised
what is meant by conflict of interest?
a situation where a person of trust, or an organisations own interests are in direct conflict with the interest of the patient.
could also mean the organisation or person of trust wants to benefit of the patient.

disciplinary = professionals from the same service but difference roles
