Greater splanchnic nerve arises from? ends at?
T5-T9
Celiac ganglion
Lesser splanchnic nerve arises from? ends at?
T10-T11
Superior mesenteric ganglia or aorticorenal ganglion
Least splanchnic nerve arises from? ends at?
T12
Inferior mesenteric ganglia (Renal plexus/ganglion)
White rami communicantes contain what fiber types? Where are the cell bodies located?
Preganglionic sympathetic GVE, cell bodies in the lateral horn
GVA, cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion
White rami communicantes are found alond which spinal segments?
Between T1 and L2
Gray rami communicantes contain what fiber types? Where are the cell bodies located?
Postganglionic sympathetic GVE, cell bodies in the sympathetic chain
What fiber types are carried by the splanchnic nerves? Where are the cell bodies located?
Preganglionic sympathetic GVE fibers, cell bodies in the lateral horn
GVA fibers, cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion
The nerve of the penis runs with what artery?
Dorsal artery
Which nerve runs through the inguinal ring?
Genitofemoral
The genitofemoral nerve runs with what artery?
Testicular/Ovarian artery
Where does the pudendal nerve originate?
S2,S3,S4
Describe the path of the pudendal nerve
- Originates in the pelvic area from the sacral plexus
- Enters the gluteal region through the greater sciatic foramen
- Passes under the sacrospinous ligament
- Re-enters the pelvis through the lesser sciatic foramen
- Enters pudendal canal
- Passes into deep perineal space
- Enters dorsum of penis
What branches does the pudendal nerve give?
Inferior rectal
Perineal (deep/superficial)
dorsal penis/clitoris
posterior scrotal/ posterior labial
What is the innervation of the levator ani muscles?
Primarily pudendal nerve (perineal and inferior rectal branches)
Some innervation from sacral spinal nerves S3 and S4
What are the main branches of the lumbar plexus?
Iliohypogastric Ilioinguinal Genitofemoral Lateral femoral cutaneous Nerve to iliopsoas Femoral Obturator/Accessory obturator Lumbosacral trunk
Name the branches of the sacral plexus that we care about.
Superior gluteal Inferior gluteal Posterior cutaneous femoral Sciatic Pudendal Coccygeal
What is the innervation of the scrotum?
Genital branch of genitofemoral
Anterior scrotal branch of ilioinguinal
Posterior scrotal branch of perineal
Perineal branch of post. fem. cutaneous
