Anesthesia Flashcards
(7 cards)
Describe Volume Control
Most common in OR
Preset TV
TV, RR set by provider
Flow rate is fixed. Too low won’t work, too high will increase pressures
Describe Pressure Control
Set inspiratory pressure
TV variable, depends on rise time and set pressure
Flow decreases as pressure rises, ceases when set pressure is reached
Used in situations where pressures can be high. Useful for neonates/premature infants
Describe IMV
Vent will deliver mandatory breaths at preset rate
Allows for spontaneous breaths
Secondary gas source for spontaneous breaths
Good for weaning
Describe SIMV
Just like IMV but synched with spontaneous patient effort
Describe Assist Control
Pt effort creates sub-baseline pressure that triggers the vent to give a set TV
If rate drops below set minimum, vent takes over with a full control mode
All breaths are fully assisted
Can be pressure or volume controlled
Describe Pressure Support
Pressure held constant through inspiratory phase
Goal is to increase pt’s spontaneous TV by delivering volumes ~10-12ml/kg
Decreases work of breathing, delays fatigue
Describe High Frequency Ventilation
Low tidal volumes (less than dead space)
High rate 100-200 bpm
IT 33%
Drive pressure 15-30psi
