Palace of Versailles
A huge and fancy palace built by King Louis XIV of France. It showed off his power and wealth and became a symbol of absolute monarchy.

A time in the 1600s–1700s when people used reason, logic, and science to understand the world. Thinkers questioned kings, the church, and unfair laws.
John Locke
An Enlightenment thinker who believed all people have natural rights to life, liberty, and property, like Thomas Jefferson. He said government should protect these rights or be replaced.
King Louis XIV
The absolute monarch of France who ruled for 72 years. He called himself the “Sun King” and believed he had total control over the country.
Scientific Revolution
A period of significant advancements in science and mathematics, when scientists like Galileo and Newton began using observation and experiments to learn about the world, changing how people understood nature and science.
