diminished responsibility
the offenders ability to understand the nature of the crime from a rational judgement, their ability to exhibit self control has been impaired which means they can’t be held responsible for their actions. this can reduce convictions to a manslaughter charge
loss of control
a partial defence, the offender not in control of their actions when they committed the offence. convictions can be reduces to a manslaughter charge
automatism
an act done by muscles without any control by the mind / bodily movements that are not consciously controlled. the offender has the possibility of being found completely innocent with this offence, however it usually leads to it being reduced to a manslaughter charge
