- in the uk it is legal to drink from the age of 18
- in the usa it is legal to drink from the age 21

A
you can drive from 16 in some states and so not being able to drink until you are 21 in the usa reduces the risk of young drink drivers

- in the uk there is the fire arms act (1968) which controls who can possess and use guns within the uk
- in the usa there is the federal firearms act (1998) which gives citizens the right to bare arms

gun control - why are there differences
A
- due to school shootings in the uk, such as the dunblane shooting, laws on gun control in the uk were tightened to prevent this from happening again
- due to the constitution and the second amendment in the usa (their set laws) citizens have the equal right to bare arms

crossing or walking in the road/street without regard for traffic

- in the uk jaywalking isn’t a thing/is completely legal
- it is illegal in the usa, canada, etc

jaywalking - reasons for change
A
- it is illegal in the usa because they have wider and busier roads and so are more prone to traffic accidents. not following traffic rules is a hazard
- however, the uk has much narrower roads and is it isn’t as much as a safety hazard to not always be as cautious and jaywalking therefore isn’t a thing
