Q

How may availability of transport affect development?

A

Living in remote areas may mean a lack of public transport.
Unreliable public transport can result in cancelled/ missed appointments which can negatively impact frail and vulnerable people or families with young children. Missed appointments have financial implications for health and social care services.
Using hospital car parks may be expensive for regular hospital attendees.

Q

How may people who don’t access services affect development?

A

Homeless people and vulnerable immigrants who may be at risk of infectious diseases (TB) are particular groups who find it difficult to access services. Some families are difficult to reach (Travelling families and families who don’t speak English). It is important to ensure that children in these families receive regular health checks are fully immunised against childhood infections such as meningitis C and measles to prevent health and development problems.
According to department of health report, many people may be reluctant to register with GP or may not be registered. There are many reasons why people are unable to attend GP surgeries due to caring commitments or work/ transport difficulties. According to ONS cardiovascular disease mortality is high in deprived communities due to not registering with GP surgery, being reluctant to attend surgeries or difficulty getting/attending an appointment.
