Define an incident

Many organisations use the term incident as a synonym for ‘near miss’, while other organisations use it as a ‘catch all’ covering both accidents and near misses.
The HSE uses the term to cover near misses and undesired circumstances, which are defined as ‘a set of condition or circumstances that have the potential to cause injury or ill health e.g. untrained nurses handling heavy patients.’
