Q

How do you make soluble salts using metals?

A
  • gently heat dilute acid
  • keep adding insoluble base (little bit at a time)
  • eventually base will stop dissolving (in excess meaning the rest of the solution is neutralised)
  • filter out excess (what is left is a dissolved form of soluble salt
  • to make into salt crystals heat in a water bath until crystals form

13
Q

Why is it important to use an excess of the other reactant to neutralise an acid?

A

To ensure all the acid is used up (acid is a limiting reactant)
