Q
What was the expectation of the alpha particle scatter experiment and how did it prove that the plum pudding model was incorrect?
A
- expected alpha particles to pass straight through the gold sheet or only be slightly deflected due to the spread out positive charge of the plum pudding model
- plum pudding model proven wrong as some alpha particles were deflected more than expected and some deflected backwards proving that the plum pudding model wasn’t entirely positive
- as some particles were deflected backwards, meant a higher concentration of positive particles in one area
2
Q
What are polymers?
A
Long chains of repeating units connected by large intermolecular forces
3
Q
What are macromolecules?
A
Giant covalent structures
