Q

What was the expectation of the alpha particle scatter experiment and how did it prove that the plum pudding model was incorrect?

A
  • expected alpha particles to pass straight through the gold sheet or only be slightly deflected due to the spread out positive charge of the plum pudding model
  • plum pudding model proven wrong as some alpha particles were deflected more than expected and some deflected backwards proving that the plum pudding model wasn’t entirely positive
  • as some particles were deflected backwards, meant a higher concentration of positive particles in one area
