Battle zone

Explain the difference between CCA and CAS:

A

CCA = Close combat attack
- When the airborne asset has a detailed understanding of the friendly SOM so that positive deconfliction is not required

CAS = Close air support
- When the airborne asset is unfamiliar with the detailed FF SOM, fires coordinated by JTAC/JFO IOT avoid frat

Engagement criteria vs bypass criteria:

A

Engagement criteria:
- If engaged by a target, the mission/risk value is considered IOT target the vehicle (opportunity targets too good to miss)

Bypass criteria:
- When engaged by a target, if it fits within the requirements its will by bypassed and reported (Target isn’t juicy enough)

COA-BB vs CONOPS vs Confirmation BB
Confirmation BB = Brief to the boss to let them know that you know what to plan COA-BB = Terrain/EN planned, a few COAs made up, briefing the rough SoM for the COAs CONOPS = is a detailed brief that confirms a specific COA so that you can finalise product and write orders
