‘plac’d a fruitless crown and a barren sceptre in my gripe’

A

fruitless - adjective, nothing will come of him havin a crown, he has no heir, therefore his legacy will be short and abrupt
barren - adjective, empty of meaning or value, although he has the power of the king, there is no value/weight to being king
sceptre - noun, something that displays sovereignty and authority. a barren sceptre is adverse and grievous and unfavourable for the country, his rule could potentially be the downfall of scotland

A

ghost could be a manifestation of his guilt but also Banquo proving his unwavering loyalty, even in death
never - macbeth believes he has power over the undead, is forceful and imperative
gory - adjective, displays how ruthless macbeth has become and the brutality of Banquos death
