- Claudius tells r&g that hamlet must leave for everyones saftey
- Claudius praying - wonders about being pardonded if he retains all the power he gained in murdering his brother - he wants to be pardoned but not to give up his crown and queen
- hamlet finds him and contemplates killing him
when hamlet leaves claudis says it was useless as he didnt really mean it
‘O my offence is rank, it smells to heavan’
