Act 5 Scene 5 Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is very atypical about the Cardinal in the opening of the scene?
“I am puzzled in a question about hell… Methinks I see a thing armed with a rake” - he should know what happens in the afterlife as a Cardinal.
What does the Cardinal scream? Why does no one come to help him?
“Here’s a plot upon me! I am assaulted! I am lost unless some rescue!”
Grisolan: “He doth this pretty well, but it will not serve to laugh me out of mine honour”
How do the killings unfold?
“[Enter Ferdinand] … [He wounds the Cardinal and in the scuffle gives Bosola his death wound]”
Who kills Ferdinand? What does Ferdinand ask for?
“[Bosola kills Ferdinand] Give me some wet hay”
How does Bosola’s life end?
“revenge for the Duchess of Malfi, murdered by th’ Aragonian brethern; for Antonio… lastly, for myself, that was an actor in the main of all much ‘gainst mine own good nature”
“I know not how - such a mistake as I have often seen in a play… Oh, this gloomy world!”
What, in the RSC version, is the Cardinal trying to do?
He lies on the Bible and tries to read as much as he can.
Who is left everything?
“[the Duchess and Antonio’s son]”
