Adrenergic Drugs Flashcards
(24 cards)
How does epinephrine effect cardiac function?
increases the force of contraction (positive inotropic effect), increases heart rate, increases conduction velocity at the AV node
how does epinephrine effect the vascular tone?
increases systolic BP; decreases diastolic BP and total peripheral vascular resistance; MAP remains unchanged
what receptor type is responsible for the epinephrine effects of cardiac function?
beta 1
what receptor types are responsible for epinephrine effects on vascular tone of skin vessels and mucous membranes?
mostly alpha 1
what receptor types are responsible for epinephrine effects on vascular tone of skeletal muscle?
alpha 1 and beta 2
what receptor types are responsible for epinephrine effects on vascular tone in renal and cerebral arteries?
D1 and alpha 1
what are the effects of epinephrine on the respiratory system?
relaxes bronchial muscle and decreases bronchial secretion and congestion within bronchial mucosa
how does epinephrine effect skeletal muscle?
causes muscle tremor and increases K+ uptake by skeletal muscle
what effect does epinephrine have on blood glucose levels?
elevates blood glucose levels by enhancing liver glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis
what effect does epinephrine have on fee fatty levels?
increases it
what effect does epinephrine have on renin?
it increases renin release
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing relaxation of the bronchial muscle?
beta 2
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing a decrease in bronchial secretion and congestion within bronchial mucosa?
alpha 1
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing muscle tremors?
beta 2
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing an increase in K+ uptake by skeletal muscle?
beta 2
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing elevated blood glucose levels?
beta 2
which receptor is responsible for epinephrine causing increase renin release?
beta 1
what are the effects of norepinephrine on the heart?
reduces HR
what is the effect of norepinephrine on vessels?
vasoconstrictor
what effect does norepinephrine have on blood pressure?
increases systolic blood pressure and increases diastolic blood pressure
what effect does norepinephrine have on peripheral vascular resistance?
increases
what effect does epinephrine have on peripheral vascular resistance?
decreases it
what are the effects of phenylephrine?
mydriatic and decongestant; causes severe vasoconstriction, blood pressure elevation, and severe bradycardia
what are the effects of clonidine?
central effect on presynaptic alpha 2 receptors in the lower brainstem area: decreasing sympathetic outflow, reduction in blood pressure, and bradycardia
