Advertising
Communication used to promote a product, service, or idea to a target audience.
Appeal to patriotism
A persuasive technique that tries to convince someone by playing on their pride and love for their country or nation. (Let us stand together as Australians).
Appeal to family
Appeals to family values (Quality time)
Appeal to fear
A technique that plays on the audiences fears (Don’t text while driving you can crash).
Slogan
A short, memorable phrase for a campaign, product or idea. (Just Do It, The Burgers Are Better At Hungry Jacks etc.)
Pun
A play on words (So rice to meet you, I told a chemistry joke, but there was no reaction).
Inclusive language
Language that avoids excluding particular people (Teachers and students, Everyone)
Rhetorical Question
A question said as a statement, for effect, not for information (Are you crazy?, Who cares?)
Repetition
Using the same word or phrase multiple times (Home sweet home, it is what it is)
Colloquial language
Informal language (Ain’t, gonna, wanna)
Hyperbole
An exaggerated statement (The teacher gave us a ton of work, I haven’t seen you in ages).
