Q

How does the sheikh show us the dangers of shirk in this book?

A
  1. He compared Ibadah to Taharah
    Whereby your salah is valid if it has Taharah —
    أن العبادة لا تسمى عبادة إلا مع التوحيد، كما أن الصلاة لا تسمى صلاة إلا مع الطهارة
  2. He compared shirk to Hadath ( I.e if you break your wudu, then your salah becomes invalid )
  3. If shirk is mixed with ibadah, it invalidates it
  4. The one that commits shirk, will remain in the fire for eternity

Q

Does this verse talk about minor or major shirk?

A

The scholars of Ahlul Sunnah have two opinion on this:

  1. Major shirk and minor shirk does come under this verse but the minor shirk doesn’t take the person out of Islam and so when the person enters the fire they will not stay there for eternity but will be punished
  2. That minor shirk does not come under this verse and that it is under the will of Allah ‎ﷻ if the person is forgiven

Q

What two points do we need to understand in this first principle?

A
  1. That the mushrikeen acknowledged that that Allah ‎ﷻ is the Creator and the sustainer ( they acknowledged Tawhid Al Rububiyah)- but was not enough for them to become Muslim
  2. The prophet ‎ﷺ fought the mushrikun and as a result, their acknowledgment of Tawhid Al Rububiyah did not enter them into Islam

O believers! Donate from what We have provided for you before the arrival of a Day when there will be no bargaining, friendship,or intercession. Those who disbelieve are ˹truly˺ the wrongdoers.

Surah Al Baqarah { 2:254 }

24
Q

What is الشفاعة المثبتة?

A

التي تطلب من الله، والشافع مكرم بالشفاعة، والمشفوع له هو من رضي الله قوله و عمله بعد الإذن

It is the one that is sought from Allah ‎ﷻ, and the one that is making the intercession is being honoured ( by Allah ‎ﷻ ) and t he one interceded for is someone that Allah ‎ﷻ is pleased with after His permission

25
What is the evidence for الشفاعة المثبتة?
مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? Surah Al Baqarah { 2:255 }
26
What are the 2 conditions of intercession to be accepted?
1. Must be someone that Allah ‎ﷻ is pleased with ( a person of Tawhid ) 2. Must be done with the permission of Allah ‎ﷻ
27
What is the meaning of التواصل?
To seek nearness to something
28
التواصل is of 2 types What are they?
1. Tawasul that is Haram- to make dua to other than Allah ‎ﷻ 2. Tawasul that is permissible- 1- to seek nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ through His names nd attributes 2- to seek nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ through your righteous deeds ( I.e someone builds a masjid for Allah ‎ﷻ and makes dua to Allah ‎ﷻ for him to go to hajj ) 3- to seek nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ by asking a righteous person to make dua for you
29
What is the third principle?
The prophet ‎ﷺ encountered people differing in their worship. Amongst them where people who worshiped the angles, some worshiped the Prophets and the righteous men and others who worshipped stones, trees, the sun and the moon. The Messenger of Allah ‎ﷺ fought them and did not differentiate between them
30
What are the two types of daleel ( evidence ) that the sheikh is going to mention?
١. دليل إجماعى- Daleel that is general ٢. دليل تفصيلى- Daleel that is in detail ( this is a beneficial way of refuting all types of doubts )
31
What is the evidence for the third principle?
وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌۭ وَيَكُونَ ٱلدِّينُ لِلَّهِ ۖ Fight then untill there is no more Fitnah ( disbelief and worshiping of others along with Allah ) and all the deen is for Allah ( Alone ) Surah Al Baqarah { 2:193 }
32
What is the evidence that the the sun and the moon ( are worshipped )?
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِ ٱلَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ ۚ لَا تَسْجُدُوا۟ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ Among His signs are the day and the night, the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or the moon Surah Al Fussilat { 41:37 }
33
Why did the prophet ‎ﷺ prohibited prayer at sunrise and sunset?
To block the means which lead to shirk. Since there are people who prostrate to the sun at sunrise and sunset, he prohibited us from praying during these two times even if it is directed towards Allah ‎ﷻ
34
What is the evidence that the Angels are worshiped?
وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَن تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُم بِٱلْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ And he would never ask you to take angels and prophets as lords. Would he ask you to disbelieve after you have submitted? Surah Al Imran { 3:80 }
35
What is the evidence that the prophets are worshiped?
وَإِذْ قَالَ ٱللَّهُ يَـٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ ءَأَنتَ قُلْتَ لِلنَّاسِ ٱتَّخِذُونِى وَأُمِّىَ إِلَـٰهَيْنِ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالَ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ مَا يَكُونُ لِىٓ أَنْ أَقُولَ مَا لَيْسَ لِى بِحَقٍّ ۚ إِن كُنتُ قُلْتُهُۥ فَقَدْ عَلِمْتَهُۥ ۚ تَعْلَمُ مَا فِى نَفْسِى وَلَآ أَعْلَمُ مَا فِى نَفْسِكَ ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ عَلَّـٰمُ ٱلْغُيُوبِ And ˹on Judgment Day˺ Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Did you ever ask the people to worship you and your mother as gods besides Allah?” He will answer, “Glory be to You! How could I ever say what I had no right to say? If I had said such a thing, you would have certainly known it. You know what is ˹hidden˺ within me, but I do not know what is within You. Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Knower of all unseen Surah Al Ma’idah { 5:116 }
36
What does Allah ‎ﷻ’s saying ‘ يَـٰعِيسَى ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ show?
That is an evidence that Isa should not be worshiped ( he’s a son of a women and gave birth and Allah ‎ﷻ is not born )
37
What is the evidence that the righteous are worshiped?
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُۥ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًۭا ˹Even˺ the closest ˹to Allah˺ of those invoked would be seeking a way to their Lord, hoping for His mercy, and fearing His punishment. Indeed, your Lord’s torment is fearsome. Surah Al Isra { 17:57 }
38
The mufassirun ( authors of Tafsir ), mentioned to interpretations of this verse, what are they?
1. The verse was revealed regarding those who worshiped Isa and his mother and Uzair and anyone who worships these righteous individuals( these righteous individuals ,they themselves are hoping for the mercy of Allah ‎ﷻ) 2. That there where a group of people ( mushrikun ) that used to worship the Jinn, but the jinn accepted Islam ( and the jinn themselves are seeking nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ )- they themselves are hoping for the mercy of Allah ‎ﷻ)
39
What does this verse show?
they themselves ( the righteous people and the jinn who’s accepted islam )are hoping to attain the mercy of Allah ‎ﷻ, so how can we worship them )
40
What is the meaning of توسل ?
التقرب الى الله بضاعة والعمل To seek nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ with his obedience and according to what He pleases
41
توسل is of two types What are they ?
1. Tawasul that is legislated- that is ibadah ( i.e there is evidence for it from the Quran and the Sunnah ) 1- التوسل إلى الله بأسمائه وصفاته- Seeking nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ through his beautiful names and attributes 2- التوسل إلى الله بالعمل الصالح- Seeking nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ through your righteous deeds ( surah Al Imran verse 193 is the evidence ) 3- التوسل إلى الله بدعاء الرجل الصالح Seeking nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ by asking a righteous person to make dua for you ( to make dua for someone ) 2. Tawasul that is prohibited- ( I.e there is no evidence for it in the Quran and the Sunnah )
42
What is a useful principle in Islam?
الأصل في العبادة المنع The origin of ibadah, that it is prohibited ( unless there is evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah )
43
Seeking nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ through the prophet ‎ﷺ, is of different types, what are they?
1. To seek nearness to Allah ‎ﷻ via your iman that you have for the prophet ‎ﷺ (I.e to say ‘ oh Allah if I truly love the prophet ‎ﷺ then forgive ) 2. To seek nearness to Allah ﷻ with the Dua of the prophet ﷺ— this is permissible when he was alive but after his death, it is not permissible ( there is NO authentic evidence that shows we can go to the prophet ‎ﷺ and make dua to him and ask him to make dua for us )
44
What is a good principle regarding the reality of matters in Islam ?
العبرة بالحقائق لا بالأسماء The reality of the matter goes back to the reality of the affair
45
What is the evidence that storms and trees are worshiped?
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱللَّـٰتَ وَٱلْعُزَّىٰ ١٩ وَمَنَوٰةَ ٱلثَّالِثَةَ ٱلْأُخْرَىٰٓ ٢٠ Now, have you considered ˹the idols of˺ Al Lât and ’Uzza, and the third one, Manât, as well? Surah Al Najm { 53:19-20 }
46
How is Al Laat mentioned in the verse?
It refers to a righteous man who used to mix gruel and feed the pilgrims ( after his death, people started to worship him around his tomb- shirk )
47
How is Al Uzza mentioned in the verse?
It’s an Idol in the form of a tree between Makkah and Taa’f. There were shayateen in it who would speak to the people and the ignorant people used to think they were being spoken by the tree or the building that was built upon it, although it was the shayateen who used to speak to them
48
How is Manaat mentioned in the verse?
Manaat was a big rock which used to be in a place near Jabal Qudayd between Makkah and Madinah.
49
What is a Hadith that is linked to this verse?
The Hadith of Abu Waaqid- al- Laythee who said, “we departed with the prophet ‎ﷺ to Hunain and we had recently left kufr. The mushrikeen used to have a tree which they used to devote themselves to and hang their weapons on ( Dhaat Anwaat ). We passed by a tree and said, “ O messenger of Allah ﷺ, Make a Dhaat Anwaat for us as they have a Dhaat Anwaat.” He said ﷺ, “ Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar! By the one in whose Hand is my soul, these are the ways. The like of what you have said is what Bani Israel said to Musa, ٱجْعَل لَّنَآ إِلَـٰهًۭا كَمَا لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌۭ ۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌۭ تَجْهَلُونَ Make for us a god like their gods.” He replied, “Indeed, you are a people acting ignorantly! Surah Al A’raf { 7:138 }
50
What does this Hadith show?
. That the prophet ‎ﷺ rebuked them, showing that what they said was haram . This Hadith shows the dangers of having ignorance of Tawhid ( but also that they did not know it was haram to say what they said )
51
What is the fourth principle?
The mushrikeen of our time are worse in their shirk than the mushrikeen who came before. This is because those who came before committed shirk during times of ease and made their worship purely for Allah during times of difficulty. However the shirk of the mushrikeen of our time is continuous during times of ease and difficulty
52
What is the evidence for this principle?
فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ If they happen to be aboard a ship ˹caught in a storm˺, they cry out to Allah ˹alone˺ in sincere devotion. But as soon as He delivers them ˹safely˺ to shore, they associate ˹others with Him once again˺. Surah Al Ankabut { 29:65 }
53
What is the second type of mushrikun of the past than the mushrikun of today ?
The mushrikeen in the past understood the meaning of لا إله إلا الله , and because of this ,they refused to say it ,but the mushrikun of today ( the later mushrikun ), they say لا إله إلا الله and they contradict it which means they don’t understand it
54
What is the third type of mushrikun of the past than the mushrikun of today?
The mushrikun of the past will call upon righteous people such as prophets or they would call upon things that have no intellect ( stones and idols ), but the mushrikun of today, call upon righteous people and also shayateen and disobedient people ( fasiqeen )— those that don’t pray, do evil acts etc
55
What is the fourth type of mushrikun in the past than the mushrikun of today?
The mushrikun of the past had committed shirk within the Tawhid of Rububiyah but the mushrikun of today commit shirk within the Tawhid and Uluhiyah and Rububiyah
56
What is the fifth type of mushrikun in the past than the mushrikun of today?
The mushrikun of the past knew what they were upon contradicted what the prophet ‎ﷺ was upon, but the mushrikun of today, believed that their belief is exactly the same as the belief of the prophet ﷺ
