ALL DRUGS Flashcards
What is Noradrenaline/norepinephrine used for?
Hypotension
What is Ramipril, Enalapril, Captoprilk used for?
Hypertension. ACE inhibitor. First line treatment for diabetics and under 55
What are drugs like Candesartan, Losartan used for?
Hypertension. ARBs. Blocks the angiotensin II from binding to it’s receptor
What does aliskiren do?
Direct renin inhibitor
What do drugs like amlodipine, felodipine, Nifedipine do?
Hypertension. They are dihydropyridines calcium channel blockers and reduce systemic vascular resistance AND arterial pressure. First line 55+ and black/Caribbean descent
What do drugs like Verapamil and Diltiazem do?
Hypertension. They are nondihydropyridine calcium channel blockers and selectively inhibit myocardium, less systemic effect
What do drugs like bendroflumethiazide, indapamide, chortalkidone and meolazone do?
Hypertension. Block the Na+/Cl- transporter in the DCT
What do drugs like spironolactone and eplerenone do?
HYPERTENSION. They are aldosterone receptor antagonists and prevent transporters like the Na+/K+ ATPase channel from working in DCT
What do drugs like Amiloride and triamterene do?
Hypertension. They block Na+ channels
What do drugs like Atenolol, Bisoprolol and Propanolol do?
HYPERTENSION. They are beta blockers and reduce sympathetic activity in the heart
What does furosemide do?
Hypertension. Is a loop diuretic as they act on the loop of henle to offload fluyid
What do drugs like Statins do?
Anti-atherosclerosis. Inhibit the HMG COA reductase enzyme in cholesterol synthesis.
What do penicillins do?
Antibiotic. Broad spectrum but inactivated by beta-lactamases. Cell wall inhibition (Bacterialcidal)
What do drugs like cefalexin, cefaclor, cefotaxime, ceftaroline do?
Antibiotic cephalosporins. Gram+ and Gram- cell wall disrupters (bactericidal)
What do drugs like Amikacin, streptomycin and neomycin do?
Aminoglycosides. Antibiotic, some gram+ and many gram-
