What do ARBs do?
They are angiotensin II receptor blockers and inhibit the ANGII
What do ACEi’s do?
It inhibits the angiotensin converting enzyme which stop angiotensin II being formed
What does diltiazem do?
Calcium channel blocker
What does warfarin do?
Vitamin K antagonist, stops the conversion of oxidised K to reduced K by inhibiting vitamin k reductase
What is the suffix for DOACs?
‘Xaban’ e.g epixaban, edoxaban, rivaroxaban. Stands for Direct oral anticoagulants. They are Xa cascade inhibitors
What must a patient have and be monitored for if they are on warfarin
Yellow book and measure international normal ratio (blood thickness)
What are some non-modifiable risks
Age, sex, FHx, Severe mental illness, Migranes
What do statins like atorvastatin do?
Inhibit HMG-COA reductase in the de novo cholesterol synthesis pathway which lowers production of cholesterol
What food product should you not consume with statins?
Grapefruit related products as they disrupt enzymes in the liver
