Q

Savoury Porridge

What is the historical link?

A

Savoury gruels, pottages and porridge have been part of the Brittish diet since cooking began, particularly in the peasantry because it was an economical way of using inexpensive ingredients (stocks from animal and grains) to fill up hungry stomachs. They were bread or oat based and strong flavours such as onions, herbs or garlic were added to give otherwise bland dishes a punch.
