Anatomy Flashcards
(33 cards)
what is the diaphragm sellae
a tough sheet of dura mater forming a roof/diaphragm over the pituitary fossa
what adheres to all interna, aspects of the bones of the cranial vault
dura mater
the pituitary gland is the pituitary fossa of the spenoid bone inferior to the
diaphragm sellae, a tough sheet of dura mater forming a roof (diaphragm) over the pituitary fossa
what is the tentorium cerebelli
a tough sheet of dura mater tenting over the cerebellulm within the posterior cranial fossa but with a central gap to permit the brainstem to pass through
what are the dural venous sinuses
venous channels within the dura mater that drain most of the venous blood from the cranial cavity (including the brain) into the internal jugular veins
what are the intercavernous sinus
connects the right and left cavernous sinuses anterior to the pituitary gland
where do the internal carotid arteries pass in relation to the cavernous sinuses
the pass through
where do the dural venous sinuses drain
the dural venous sinuses drain into the internal jugular veins at the jugular foraminae in the floor of the posterior cranial fossa
the sternocleidomastoid is enclosed within which type of fascia
the investing fascia
describe the attachements and insertions of the SCM
the sternal head attaches to the manubrium of the sternum
the clavicular head attaches to the medial end of the clavicle
both heads pass superiorly to attach to the mastoid process of the temporal bone
where is the external jugular vein and where does it drain into
a superficial vein in the superficial fascia drains into the subclavian vein
where does the desending part of the trapezius muscle attach
the spine of the scapula and the lateral end of the clavicle
attaches superiorly to the occipital bone
where are the carotid sheaths located
deep to the investing fascia and located anterolaterally in the neck either side of the thyroid gland
where does the carotid sheath attach superioly
to the base of the skull around the jugular foramen and the entrance to carotid canal
where does the carotid sheath attach inferiorly
blends inferiorly with the mediastinal fascia
what is enclosed within each carotid sheath
the internal jugular vein, common then internal carotid arteries
vagus nerve
deep cervical lymph nodes
what is the arterial supply to the thyroid gland
superior and inferior thyroid arteries
the superior artery is the first branch of the external carotid artery
the inferior thyroid artery isa branch of the subclavian artery
what is the venous drainage of the thyroid
superior, middle and inferior thyroid veins
superior and middle drain into internal jugular veins
inferior drains into brachiocephalic vein
somatic branches of vagus nerve in the neck
superior laryngeal
right recurrent laryngeal
where does the vagus nerve pass in relation to the lung root
posterior to the lunch root
where does the right recurrent laryngeal recur under
the subclavian artery
what are the four strap muscles
sternohyoid, thyrohyoid, sternothyroid and omohyoid
what si the facial sling
it attaches the intermediate tendon of the omohyoid to the clavicle
what are the strap muscles supplies by
supplied by anterior rami of C1-C3 thyrohyoid supplied by anterior rami of C1
