(32 cards)
What tissues make up the tunica intima?
- Epithelium
- BM
- Connective tissue
What tissue makes up the tunica media?
-Muscle
What tissue makes up the tunica adventita
- Fibrous Connective tissue
What type of muscle makes up the tunica media?
-Smooth muscle
What layer of a vein is thick
Adventita
What type of epithelium are found in the tunica intima?
-Simple squamous epithelium
What are the three types of arteries?
- Elastic
- Muscular
- Arterioles
What type of arteries are elastic?
Conducting
What type of arteries are muscular?
Distributing
What type of arteries control blood pressure?
Muscular
What type of tissues are found in the t media of muscular arteries?
- smooth muscle
What is contained in the intima
-endothelium
-basement membrane
NO internal elastic lamina
What layer is not present in arterioles?
No T.adventita
What is found in the t.media of an arteriole?
1-2 layers of smooth layers
What are pericytes?
incomplete layer of cells surrounding basement membrane- have contractile properties
Is blood pressure high or low in capillaries?
-LOW
What are the 3 types of capillaries?
- Continuous
- Fenestrated
- Discontinuous
What can somtimes be seen in between gaps in fenestrated capillaries?
Small lines of protein diaphragm
Where are continuous capillaries found?
-Muscle
Where are fenestrated capillaries found?
Endocrine glands
kidney (renal corpuscle)
Where are the discontinuous capillaries found?
Liver
Spleen
Bone marrow
What do the gaps in discontinuous capillaries allow?
Free passage of fluid and cells
What is a sinusoid?
Large diameter discontinuous capillaries
Where are sinusoids found?
Where large amounts of exchange takes place
eg LIVER
Some endocrine glands
