Anatomy Lecture #6 and #7 Flashcards
Articulations and Joints (23 cards)
What is a Joint?
A part of the body wher 2 or more bones meet. (Not all Joints are Movable)
All the Joints
Ball and Socket, Pivot, Saddle, Condyloid, Hinge, Gliding Joints
What does the structure of a Joint determine?
The Range of Motion (ROM)
What does the Integumentary system consist of?
Skin and its derivates (Nails, Hair, Skin Glands)
What is skins mose important function?
To protect the body from the environment
2 Main Principle parts of the skin are?
Epidermis and the Dermis but also the Hypodermis that is lower than the rest of the other layers
When the body is HOT the dermis does what? And when the body is COLD the dermis does what?
HOT: Vasodilate
COLD: Vasoconstrict
Vitamin D
A vitamin that is synthesised by the epidermal cells when exposed to UV light, and can help absorb calcium and phosphorus from the small intestine
Rickets is caused by what?
Caused by lack of UV light
What are the 5 layers of the skin?
Stratum Corneum, Stratum Lucidum, Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Spinosum, Stratum Basale
Which of these skin layers is only on the Soles, Palms, and Lips?
Stratum Lucidum
Vitiligo
Patches of skin that cannot receive melanin because the melanocytes cant “survive”
Cyanosis (Blueness)
Sign of poor oxygen of the blood
Acro Cyanosis
Blueness of the Extremities
Pallor
Is anemia/ lack of Iron
Jaundice
Bilirubin excess; Liver problems
Post Mortem Livity
Blanching of the skin when dead
Another word for Mole?
Nevus
What are Epidermal Friction Ridges?
Finger Prints
What does the Dermis include?
Stratum Papillarosum, and the Stratum Reticularosum
Linea albicante is another name for what?
Stretch marks or Striae
What are Lines of Cleavage?
Natural lines on the skin that reflect the direction of collagen fiber orientation in the dermis
If the skin is disrupted parallel to the long axis of the fibers, the wound tends to reapproximate.
What is the Arrector Pilli Muscle used for?
Goosebumps
