Anatomy Week 8 - Blood supply Flashcards
(22 cards)
What is the major artery of the head and neck and what does it branch into?
The major artery of head and neck is the Common carotid artery.
It branches into the Internal carotid artery and external carotid artery.
What does the internal and external carotid artery supply blood to?
Internal carotid artery supplies blood to the brain, eyes and other structures in the skull.
External carotid artery supplies blood to the face, scalp, neck, muscles and other structures outside the skull.
List the major arteries of the Thoracic region.
- Right subclavian artery
- Internal thoracic arteries
- Posterior intercostal artery
- Anterior intercostal artery
List the major arteries of the abdominal area.
- Inferior Phrenic arteries.
- Celiac trunk (artery): Divides into three branches…
- Left gastric artery
- Splenic artery
- Common hepatic artery - Superior Mesenteric
- Inferior Mesenteric
- Renal arteries
- Lumbar arteries
- Median sacral artery
List the major arteries of the Lumbar region.
- Lumbar arteries
- Lumbar branches of the iliolumbar artery
- Lumbar branches of the median sacral artery
Characterise major systemic veins.
Deep veins run parallel to arteries while superficial veins have many anastomoses.
Which 2 branches supply blood to the upper cervical regions?
- Anterior spinal arteries
- Posterior spinal arteries
What artery supplies most of the lower levels of the spinal cord?
Radicular arteries.
What is the largest artery in the in the body, leaves the heart, arch superiorly then descends?
The Aorta.
What three branches that the aorta divides into?
- Ascending Aorta
- Aortic arch
- Descending Aorta
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the diaphragm?
Inferior Phrenic artery.
What artery of the abdominal area, that branches off the Celiac trunk, supplies blood to the stomach?
Left Gastric Artery
What artery of the abdominal area, that branches off the Celiac trunk, supplies blood to the spleen, pancreas and part of the stomach.
Splenic artery
What artery of the abdominal area, that branches off the Celiac trunk, supplies blood to the liver, gallbladder and part of the stomach.
Common Hepatic Artery.
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the small intestine, cecum, appendix and the ascending, transverse colon.
Superior Mesenteric.
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the large intestine.
Inferior Mesenteric.
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the kidenys.
Renal arteries.
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the lower back muscles and spinal cord.
Lumbar arteries.
What artery of the abdominal area supplies blood to the sacrum and coccyx.
Median sacral artery.
What artery of the Lumbar region supplies blood to the muscles and vertebrae of the lower back?
Lumbar arteries.
What artery of the Lumbar region supply muscles and structures of the lower back and pelvis?
Lumbar branches of the iliolumbar artery.
What artery of the Lumbar region supplies blood to the lower back and pelvic region?
Lumbar branches of the median sacral artery.
