ANTERIOR AXIO-APPENDICULAR MUSCLES Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are the muscles of the pectoral girdle?
- pectoralis major
- pectoralis minor
- subclavius
- serratus anterior
What are the proximal and distal attachments of pectoralis major?
proximal:
clavicular head: ant. surface of medial half of clavicle
sternocostal head: ant. surface of sternum, sup. 6 costal cartilages, aponeurosis of oblique muscle
distal: intertubercular sulcus
what are the proximal and distal attachments of pectoralis minor?
proximal: 3-5 ribs near costal cartilage
distal: coracoid process
what are the proximal and distal attachments of subclavius?
proximal: junction of 1st rib and its costal cartilage
distal: inf. surface of middle third of clavicle
what are the proximal and distal attachments of serratus anterior?
proximal: 1-8th ribs
distal: med. border of scapula
what innervates the pectoralis major?
- lateral pectoral nerve
2. medial pectoral nerve
what innervates the pectoralis minor?
medial pectoral nerve
what innervates subclavius?
subclavian nerve
what innervates serratus anterior?
long thoracic nerve
what is the action of pectoralis major?
adduct and medially rotate shoulder
draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly
what is the action of pectoralis minor?
stabilize scapula
what is the action of subclavius?
anchors and depresses clavicle
what is the action of serratus anterior?
protract scapula and hold it against thoracic wall
rotate scapula
what is the clavipectoral/deltopectoral triangle?
the deltoid and pectoralis major form the deltopectoral groove, which diverge and form the deltopectoral triangle with the clavicle.
what are the walls of the axilla?
anterior: pectoralis major
lateral: pectorals minor
medial: serratus anterior
